   Santana: Music for the soul

   It is impossible to have grown up in this era without having heard foot tapping numbers like Black Magic Woman, Maria Maria, into the night, Oye Como Va, etc. The list is endless and belongs to the magician of Latin influenced music - Carlos Santana. Established by him in 1967 in San Francisco, the band has been nominated for many prestigious awards and has gone on to win a number of them. Having sold more than 90million records across the globe, the band is the considered to be one of the best selling groups of all times.

When the band first auditioned in 1976, skeptics told Santana that they would never be able to make it to the top with Latin music. Some even suggested that he kept his job washing dishes. They could not be more wrong. The band performed at the Woodstock festival and two years later their first album was released. The album which was named after the founder of the band went on to take the fourth place on the US Billboard 200 with the number ‘Evil ways’ from the same becoming the top 10 single in the US.

For the next ten years there was no looking back. The band recorded albums, played at music festival and also went on tours to promote their records. Their songs were well liked as was seen by their growing popularity on the charts.
