The late sixties and seventies brought Santana into focus after the Woodstock Music and Art Festival where they belted their tunes and were a roaring hit. The blues and rock tones were highly appreciated by all the fans and with a dose of jazz in the offing, it was mind blowing. However with success came a great deal of pain and drugs and a couple of members of the band moved along only to be replaced with good talent. During the seventies Santana shifted focus to spirituality and the style was a changing. Personality clashes with his guru came to a head and both he and his wife ended the alliance.
Come the 80’s he performed with well known artists like Prince and participated in the Live Aid concert with Bob Geldof. He came up with a solo record called Blues for Salvador which won him a Grammy. In 1990 Santana ended his deal with Columbia Records and switched over to Polygram. The 90’s success was not as immense as the earlier years, but he enjoyed acclaim nevertheless. The late 90’s he was back in the game with collaborations with Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, Cee Lo Green, Eric Clapton, Dave Mathews, Everlast, and many others with the album Supernatural.
