Description:
I always had a fascination with fireplaces. Having lived in a tropical country, there’s not even the slightest chance of having a fireplace in our house. When I moved overseas, I landed a job in Calgary where snow is an ordinary sight to see. It was a complete opposite set-up for me. It was always freezing cold and I had the hardest time adjusting to the extremely cold weather. Also, I had zero knowledge of how fireplaces work so it took me sometime, and a lot of asking questions from locals, before I managed to light it up.
A neighbor probably took pity of me, helped me out with my dilemma. He showed me the ropes and all things I should know about living in Calgary. It took me weeks to learn which kind of firewood is best to use in this weather. I was told to get only the quality firewood I can get my hands on, which is either Pine or Birch only. After a few years, I was already a pro. I buy my firewood in bulk delivery to save me time and effort. I also keep tabs of firewood suppliers from Cochrane, Bearspaw and Canmore, all whom get high recommendations from me. This way, I can always enjoy the warm and fuzzy nights despite the extreme cold weather outside.
